Breaking that total sales figure down shows that 31,3 Mt of coal were sold to Eskom to be burnt in the utility's power stations and 20,4 Mt were sold to trade customers; the great bulk of that was exported through the Richards Bay Coal Terminal.

Background. The New Denmark Colliery was commissioned in 1982. In 2018, Anglo American sold New Denmark to Seriti Resources, the current owners. The mine is one of the deepest coal mining operations in South Africa. It is a mechanised mine, with the bulk of production being sourced from one extraction unit using longwall mining methods.
